Gymnastics is a fun, inclusive sport. Focuses on individual physical development through motor, cognitive and social skills, balance, coordination and enhances self-esteem. Gymnastics Australia’s GymAbility is an umbrella brand for all initiatives within Gymnastics Australia, State Association members and clubs that seek to include people with disabilities in any capacity within gymnastics, including as an athlete, coach, judge, volunteer or other.

The GymAbility program encourages participation in a supportive and sociable environment fostering connections and friendship for families with a child with special needs. The initiative offer a variety of gymnastics programs that can cater for specific needs through specialised 1:1 coaching, small group therapy or recreational group classes. Their coaches are qualified, experienced and adaptive to the physical, sensory and learning requirements of every individual.

There are only 3 places in NSW offering this program.

      • $50.40 per term (6 weeks @ $8.40/lesson), 
      • annual Registration $57.00 (expires on Friday, 31 December 2022), 
      • 1 x $8.40 trial class permitted before full term payment of the program is required

Rainbow Clubs

Rainbow Club is a network of social swimming clubs for children with a disability located throughout Sydney and NSW. With NDIS Provider status and their unique Swim the Rainbow program, Rainbow Club offers a fun and safe community for children with a disability to swim, interact, and play. 

Rainbow Club is a vibrant, robust and centrally managed charity, with our Board providing governance, oversight and support to their Clubs. The Board is committed to expanding Rainbow Club’s footprint and building capacity to provide personalised swim lessons and social participation for 1000+ children with a disability.

AUTISM SWIM is an international, social enterprise of experts specialising in wandering and drowning prevention for those with ASD and other abilities. Autism Swim is an international, multi-disciplinary organisation, combining the expertise of Autism Specialists, Behaviour Specialists, Occupational Therapists and Swimming Instructors to achieve the best possible outcomes for the individuals whom they support. Autism Swim also operates under the skilled leadership of an Advisory Board.

Leichhardt park Aquatic centre

Their All Abilities swim classes are available 6 days a week at the centre. Children and adults with many varied skill levels participate in this program. Instructors modify strokes, entries and exits. The focus for this level is teaching children to experience water in a way that is comfortable for them. Special needs lessons are generally one-on-one, depending on child’s needs and the availability of program. Group lessons are available as well as integration into capped/smaller mainstream classes.

Ripples NSW

Ripples Special Needs program caters for students with mild to severe disabilities of all ages and swimming abilities. We offer private tuition, small group-based classes as well as integration pathways into our mainstream program. Their dedicated instructors that deliver this program are certified in AUSTSWIM’s Access and Inclusion qualification and deliver each class with a caring and supportive approach. Instructors will modify skills as necessary and always use discretion to ensure a positive and rewarding experience. They can accept NDIS funding agreements for Special Needs lessons and assessments.
